AUXILIARY SAIL ENDORSEMENT

Captain an inspected sailing vessel approved to carry more that six passengers.

This endorsement is required by any captains in
charge of an inspected sailing vessel.

This means the vessel is approved to carry more that six passengers with at least one for hire.

The auxiliary sail endorsement course was designed to provide individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate and handle sail-powered vessels in addition to their existing qualifications as powerboat operators.

This endorsement allows individuals for hire to legally operate sailboats equipped with auxiliary sails, which are secondary propulsion systems typically used in conjunction with a motor.

Through this course you will gain a solid foundation in sailing knowledge and practical skills and be able to confidently operate and handle sail-powered vessels with auxiliary sails, while adhering to safety protocols and demonstrating proficiency in sail handling techniques.

Upon successfully completing the entire program, you will be directed on how to schedule your final exam. This exam is the final step towards achieving your certificate of completion and solidifying your newly acquired skills.

HI, I'M DON DOGGETT.

Don Doggett

I'm on a mission to promote seamanship and safe boating practices for sailors and professional mariners through education and certification. I've spent the last 15+ years dedicated to cruising distant harbors on the Great Lakes as well as sailboat racing during overnight regattas crossing Lake Michigan. I hold a USCG 100 ton Master Near Coastal captain's license and encourage sailing education and safety. I've enjoyed sharing my expertise to promote sailing at several organizations from the East Coast to the MidWest, and have been trained as a first responder while maintaining first aid and CPR certifications.

SUCCESS STORIES:

"Learning coastal navigation is invaluable. Since taking this course we have successfully navigated our boat through all the Great Lakes, Canada, and beyond the eastern seaboard. Without the complete knowledge of Coastal Navigation Pro it would all be a guessing game, particularly on overnight Atlantic Ocean voyages. I highly recommend this course."

"Your class was so much help, there is no way I would have wanted to try any of this myself. I have and would recommend this class to anyone studying to get their Captain's license, or wants knowledge of charting, or any other navigation-related skills. I just wanted to thank you so much for all your help getting my Captain's license and hope to see you on the water."

"I really enjoyed learning the art and skill of coastal navigation using this training program. Learning here is supportive of your sailing goals and dreams. I have definitely improved this season, and look forward to continued learning from any new courses."

"Captain Don takes the time to provide clear explanations with real world examples so that students not only retain critical information, but truly understand the importance of it. Their expertise and experience will always guide you to your true north long after the classroom."
